Mar 21 2026

Joseph Pilates original method was known as ‘Contrology’. This consisted of six ‘pillars’. If you’re training to be a Pilates Instructor, you might find yourself using this acronym ‘CCCPBF’!

Control: Every exercise is done with deliberate control rather than speed, allowing you to move with proper form and prevent injury.

Concentration: Intense mental focus on each move, which strengthens the mind-body connection.

Centering: Focusing all movement on the “powerhouse”—the center of your body, including the abdominal muscles, lower back, hips, and glutes.

Precision: Meticulous attention to detail regarding alignment, technique, and posture for every movement.

Breath: Syncing deep, intentional breathing with movement to increase oxygen flow and support muscle engagement.

Flow: Executing movements smoothly, gracefully, and continuously, turning the exercise session into a flowing, elegant routine
